In the beginning God....
This is how the first words of the Bible start. The new covenant or New Testament startsin a similar way;in the beginning was The Word. But that is another story.
When things started there was God. Oh there was more but for now let's stay on this point. In the beginning-God...
When you began God was there. You were in some way spending a moment with God. It may have been small. It may have been more than a moment. Perhaps you have wondered as I once did; is that all there is? No. I learned there is much, much more based on us ,on our walk and our pursuit of depth of relationship. But that is another story.
In the beginning God...If you have no such 'beginning' you can. Just ask him to reveal himself. He does through Jesus. Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you if you're not sure. Asking Jesus into your heart is stepping into the door though there is a room full of more. Here's the point of this focus. Do you want more? Do you want more of God? Do you wonder? It's not about how long or how little you've known some part of God in your life. Here's a little formula the Lord gave me many ,many years ago which I then shared with many others. Time. How do you start time? I call it the 5 minute rule or guide. Get your bible, a little notepad and a pen. Find a quiet spot. This will become a treasure. Read for one minute. If you are unsure where, start with the book of John. Just make it one minute. Take a second minute and ask the Holy Spirit to show you what's for you. Or if something stood out jot it down with a date. That's 3 minutes of your time. Next pray for one minute. Now you are on your last minute of the 5. Be still and listen or just sit. Eventually this will grow in a variety of ways. But it is an effective tool to help you spend time with God in the word-not a devotional. If you are a believer it is crucial that you don't trip up on that. It must be the word though a devotional can be extra. In the beginning; God. When is the last time you spent some quality time with 'your beginning?'
More to come soon on the importance of scripture.
